The devices to be assembled are mounted into a customized cartridge. These trays have a generic interface to the NST system. Therefore it is straightforward to manufacture different components. No time consuming changes of the NST system are required.

An identification tag on the cartridge calls of all relevant parameters and processes as soon as it is loaded into the station. This fully automates the procedure even for multiple device production.

The cartridge concept reduces process times to a minimum. Only the core assembly process is performed on the station while all remaining loading and unloading procedures are executed either by operators or on a separate less complex and less expensive loading and unloading station.

By applying the cartridge concept, the investment into the station achieves maximum safety for future applications. If a new device needs to be assembled, a new cartridge will be adapted to the generic machine interface.

The common machine interface allows not only to adapt different mechanical dimensions but also device-specific electrical wiring. In addition, various device types (such as opto electronic transmitters or receivers) can use the respective measurement technology depending from the device to be assembled.
